Spring here in Ft. Worth is so very different from the desert! There's such variety, such vividness of color...it's hard to explain except to another person who's lived in a brown world where it never rains. I think it's wonderful that I have to get up at 3am to close the window because of a sudden thunderstorm. Yes, spring in a place that spring actually comes to is a fantastic season...even with the seasonal allergies!
Speaking of downpours....I have a story that may be funny one day...maybe. It was raining hard, a total soaker. I was putting Devin in his car seat while trying to balance an umbrella as we were on the way to pick Ethan up at school. I tossed my car keys in the front seat to free a hand so I could fasten the car seat belts. I shut Devin's door and then proceeded to try to open mine. It was locked. Yep, throwing my keys into my seat had locked the car. I stood there for a few seconds, stunned, and wondering what in the world to do. My house, of course, is locked. My neighbor is gone, presumably to pick up her kids at school. And the other neighbor's car is gone as well. Well, after a slight panic, I realized that I had left my bedroom window open (yes, I know, I have a habit of opening my window at night for fresh air and forgetting to close it is a very bad habit!). Now, getting into the back yard was fun as well...I have the gate locked because Devin is a perfect Houdini and figured out how to unlatch it practically as soon as we moved in. So, I ditched the umbrella as useless now that I'm completely soaked and proceed to try to climb the fence in my skirt. My shoes don't fit into the little holes of the fence and my arms are much too weak to lift me up and over. So, I finally figure out how to get over...not gonna get into the details, let's just say this took a good five minutes of time. I race to the window, rip off the screen and climb in the window, hoping the entire time that no one sees me and calls the cops. I run to get the spare keys and rescue my son, and pick up my other son at school.
The spare keys were not where they were suppose to be. Oh CRAP! was my reaction. I tear into all the drawers in the house, frantically searching. By now, yes, I was panicking. I looked in every nook and cranny...upended every holder of junk that I had and still...no keys. I finally thought of a box I had left in the garage because all it held was papers (the ones you don't throw away until 3 yrs have gone by). By this time, I was thinking I would have to give in and call the locksmith to come unlock my car. But, I went ahead and searched that box without hope of finding them there. There, nestled into a little container that held some odds and ends, at the bottom of the box, were my spare keys.

Good grief! I'm glad you found them. I'm sure it'll be funny some day! And I'd like to hear the details of how you got over the fence!!
I love a good storm too, but wow, to lock yourself out and to not be able to find the spare key...that's an AWFUL feeling!
Thanks for the laugh. How did y'all fare in the latest storms last week. We lost power, but only for a few hours. Elisa said she and Ian were without for almost 2 full days.
We lost power for 2 days, and then all day on Saturday as well. Hopefully we've seen the last of the power outages!
